The following is a press release by the organizers of the Kind Bud Campout:
Mendocino Cannabis Resource Events (MCREvents) is offering their inaugural “Kind Bud Campout” July 9th through July 10th at the historic Black Oak Ranch north of Laytonville, California.
The culmination of over 30 years of cannabis activism, MCREvents is the brainchild of Karen Byars, who has been supporting the cannabis community through workshops, events, job fairs, private consultation and business services in Mendocino County. Now, says Byars, the acquisition of a California Cannabis Events Organizers license has afforded her the opportunity to branch out into event production.
“We are focused on creating cannabis marketplaces and lounges that feature Northern California outdoor cannabis flowers and products, at festivals and events,” says Byars. “The Kind Bud Campout is an intimate, Northern California cannabis experience geared toward the connoisseur.”
The Kind Bud Campout was Byars’ dream for the past two years, but until recently, the pandemic restrictions disabled public gatherings. “We had such a positive initial response, we decided to put it on the calendar for 2022,” she notes. The exclusive overnight gathering is limited to 500 attendees.
The gathering will be a combination of music, education and legal, safe cannabis consumption. Evening performances include sets by Kind Bud and the Joints, featuring Papa Mali and Matt Hubbard, Bobby Vega and Wally Ingram, who will be performing a very special “Garcia/Hunter Set” at their only exclusive West Coast performance. Along with these legendary performers, singer-songwriter Sherita Perez and positive reggae artist Junior Toots will grace the stage.
“Guests can also participate in our late-night open mic session or share your stories at a during the ‘Outlaw Storytelling: Real Tales from Behind the Redwood Curtain,’” Byars continues.
The on-site cannabis marketplace will feature a variety of offerings from licensed farmers and producers. The gathering will have a focus on hash- one of the most cherished and least understood cannabis products. There will be a Dab Bar at the marketplace and a unique opportunity for hash tastings, with tasting kits available for purchase.
“There are a limited number of slots available for sponsors and hash/extract/infused pre roll companies to enter the hash tasting,” notes Byars. To qualify, entrants must produce hash and extract that is made with Northern California outdoor biomass. “Biomass” consists of cannabis leaves, stalks and stems, which, when carefully harvested and processed, can become the basis for excellent hash-based products.
During the day, there will be a variety of speakers discussing the many different types and qualities of hash, hash extracts and how they are produced. Another speaker’s panel will focus on terpenes- one of the most elusive, important components in cannabis plants. Terpenes are responsible for the myriad scents and tastes in cannabis strains and are part of the complex chain of chemical compounds that create the wide variety of cannabis effects.
A special 420 “Cannamaste” ceremony will be held, an homage to a larger movement known as Cantheism or Cannatheism- a term coined by legendary cannabis expert witness Chris Conrad in 1995. The movement is ecumenical in nature and does not discriminate or disvalue one’s personal religious beliefs but honors the connection and holiness of cannabis through a simple, sacred sharing of the smoked plant.
Attendees must be 21 and over with a valid ID. The Black Oak Ranch offers camping under the oak and laurel trees, with potable water available and opportunities to take a dip in the nearby creek. No dogs/pets are allowed at the event.
Early bird tickets are $75.00, which includes parking and camping. Tickets and information are available at the Kind Bud Campout website https://www.kindbudcampout.com/.
