Vegetation Fire Growing Rapidly Near Clearlake Prompting Road Closures and Evacuations

Scanner traffic indicates that around 1:05 p.m. a vegetation fire ignited near the intersection of Highway 52 and Ogulin Canyon Road northeast of Clearlake.

A full wildland response including ground and air resources has been dispatched to the incident as it grew to 5-7 acres in size growing at a rapid rate of spread.

Highway 53 will be shut down as the fire swells at an extreme rate of spread.

There is an evacuation imminent for the south side of Ogulin Canyon.


UPDATE 1:22 p.m.: The fire is reportedly 10 acres in size. Evacuations of Ogulin Canyon Road are mandatory.

Scanner traffic reported that a civilian is reporting seeing someone starting the fire and having followed them.

UPDATE 1:28 p.m.: The air attack commander reports the fire is 10 acres in size, burning in grass and oak woodland at a moderate rate of spread.


UPDATE 2:10 p.m.: Forward progress stopped, reports the Incident Commander over the scanner.
