Today’s rains have proven problematic contributing to multiple vehicle accidents across county roadways.

As of publication, an accident off Highway 101 left two with major injuries, and throughout the county accidents caused vehicles to be thrown 50 feet, on one occasion 100 feet off the roadway.

Roadways that have been impacted this morning include Highway 101 between Hopland and Cloverdale and Highway 20 between Willits and Fort Bragg and others.

As we write this, scanner traffic indicates that a Ford Mustang spun out on Highway 101 near the Burke Hill Road exit, collided with another vehicle, and is now resting in the center median.

There have also been numerous reports of debris in the roadway such as large rocks

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describes how the first rain after prolonged dry spells mixes with the oils common to the roadways creating a slippery roadway.
