Firefighters are on the scene of a residential structure fire burning on Covelo’s Crawford Road and a Life Safety Alert has been issued because the blaze brought down nearby powerlines.
The Incident Commander reported that heavy smoke is showing and 20% of the structure, located on the 77000 block of Crawford Road, is currently involved.
UPDATE 6:03 p.m.: Reports from the scene indicate a 17-year-old woman is having difficulty breathing as a result of the smoke from the fire.
UPDATE 6:12 p.m: PG&E has an hour and a half estimated time of arrival. Firefighters have secured a water source and are working to control the flames.
UPDATE 6:15 p.m.: The Incident Commander has requested two water tenders respond from nearby agencies including Laytonville and Willits Fire Departments.
UPDATE 6:24 p.m.: The fire is still active and threatening two other nearby buildings. The water supply situation has proven unresolved and the two water tenders are responding Code 3.
UPDATE 6:59 p.m.: The Incident Commander said the fire has been successfully knocked down and firefighters are working now to strengthen containment.
UPDATE 7:04 p.m.: The fire has been successfully contained to the “main structure” and the Incident Commander canceled the incoming water tenders.
