On February 10, 2023 at approximately 2:57 P.M. deputies from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the Kelseyville Elementary School, for a report of a subject on their way to shoot up the school. Out of an abundance of caution the school district placed all schools in the area on lockdown. The first deputy arrived on scene at approximately 3:03 P.M.

Due to the potential seriousness of the incident, several other deputies, detectives, members of the California Highway Patrol, Lake County Probation and California State Parks also responded. Once on scene, detectives from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.

During the course of the investigation, a juvenile suspect was identified. A search warrant was authored and later served at approximately 9:45 P.M. The juvenile suspect was located and the threat was determined to be a prank call. No weapons were located during the search of the residence and the juvenile was ultimately arrested. The juvenile was later transported to the Lake County Probation Department for booking.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office takes these types of investigations very seriously and urges the public to report any type of threat to schools or children. Detectives are asking anyone with additional information regarding this investigation to contact Detective Antonio Castellanos by email at antonio.castellanos@lakecountyca.gov or 707-262-4200.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all of the agencies that responded for assistance during this incident and their commitment to the safety of our schools and children.

  1. I’m glad to see an arrest was made. But is a little frustrating when my son is beat up by two juveniles concussion broken tooth bruises all over and a strong arm robbery but juveniles can’t even be talked to let alone arrested for their premises searched for the property. Months later still no court date and if there was no one’s notified of us something needs to change withthese funerals the arrest is a good change but it doesn’t have the rest of us

  2. They are calling it a prank? This is alarming sounds like the police are not taking this seriously enough. This was not a prank. My kids won’t be returning to this school if we don’t get more information. This kids should never be allowed in a public school again.
