[UPDATES] Mendocino County: As Snow Falls, Roads Are Closing, Travelers Stranded—Here’s What We Know

Snow is falling and travelers are finding themselves mired in winter conditions throughout the county. We reviewed the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Page and the Caltrans Quickmap to provide as much information as possible regarding ongoing road closures and hazards.

Highway 101 conditions as it was shut down this afternoon [Picture from Caltrans]

Highway 101 (UPDATED 9:54 p.m.)

A large portion of Highway 101 in Northern Mendocino County is closed down between Cummings and Reynolds Highway after dozens of motorists found themselves stranded this evening. Laytonville has opened up a winter shelter at Harwood Hall (44400 Willis Avenue) for stranded travelers.

There are reportedly over 300 trees and downed power lines in the area of Leggett suggesting the full closure will last throughout the night.

UPDATE 9:54 p.m.

The north and southbound lanes of Highway 101 along the Ridgewood Grade are shut down due to the snow conditions.

State Route 175

The corridor between Hopland and Lake County has closed after heavy snow has left the road impassable and multiple trees down in the area.

State Route 20 west of Upper Lake

State Route 20

State Route 20 shut down near Witter Springs, a few miles beyond the Mendocino/Lake County line

State Route 253

Snow has closed this roadway east of Boonville.

Highway 1 (UPDATE 9:45 p.m.)

State Route 1 will be closed from Rockport to Hardy Creek through the night. Caltrans will reportedly be working to sand the roadway through the night.

State Route 128

SR 128 is reportedly blocked east of Yorkville after multiple vehicles found themselves stalled in the middle of the roadway.

Mountain View Road

Mendocino County Roads has announced on Facebook that Mountain View Road from Highway 128 to Highway 1 is closed due to heavy snow.

    THERE ARE PEOPLE FREEZING IN NICE, ca in their little trailers in the little trailer parks. Their power has been out all night and they have frozen pipes. No supplies.

    2.Phone charge
    3.A place to thaw out temporarily or overnight?

    Is there anyone out there who is desperately needing help?
