The County of Mendocino is initiating a phased reopening of Bower Park, located at 38100 Old Stage Coach Road, Gualala, on Friday, April 21, 2023. The park has been closed since January 6, 2023, due to damages to all areas of the park from the atmospheric river events this winter.

Bower Park will reopen in phases, beginning with partial opening of the parking lot, the restroom facility, and the baseball field this Friday, April 21, 2023.

To prepare for the reopening, the County hired a third-party contractor to perform storm damage repair and clean-up services related to the December 2022 and January 2023 winter storm event. The contractor has made tremendous progress on the repairs. To date, all downed trees at the park have been removed and stumps ground. Mulch has been spread throughout the park. All damaged fencing has been repaired. The restroom facility building, and ramp have been repaired. The playground edging has been replaced, and broken piece of play equipment is on order awaiting arrival. The grill area has been cleaned up and replacement grill has been manufactured and is ready for install. It is estimated that 90% of all repair work is complete.

While repair and clean-up work is continuing, many closures within the park remain in effect due to hazardous park conditions and staging of construction-related equipment. The public is advised to use caution when traveling in the area as heavy equipment and work crews will be actively performing repair and clean-up work.  At this time, the playground, grill area, outdoor theater, tennis courts, and basketball courts remain closed.

As more information related to the repair and clean-up work becomes available, including an estimated completion date, we will publish the updates on the GSA Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/MendocinoCountyGSA) and Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/MendoCountyGSA).
