Firefighters are working to extinguish a vegetation fire that ignited near Fort Bragg’s MacKerricher State Park this evening.

The Incident Commander said the fire was burning at a slow rate of spread in light and flashy fuels, likely dry grass. He told dispatch that the units initially deployed were enough to extinguish the fire. By 9:37 p.m., the fire was reported as contained.

Around 9:16 p.m., dispatch told emergency personnel that a fire between one-quarter and one-half acre in size was burning toward the beach.
