The following is a press release issued by River Oak Charter School:
River Oak Charter School is pleased to once again be presenting the Pastels on the Plaza event at Alex R. Thomas Plaza in downtown Ukiah on May 4th, 2024. The main event runs from 10 am to 3 pm with traditional maypole dances open to all at 9 am.
This annual event transforms the plaza into a charming festival scene of dance, food, live music, and most importantly- plein-air pastel art supported by the joint effort of local businesses and over 100 artists. Pastels on the Plaza brings together local artists, vendors, non-profits, businesses, and local residents — not only to inspire, but to strengthen our local community. Last year’s event was a major success with hundreds of people in attendance.
The event provides River Oak Charter School with integral funding for an arts rich education in Mendocino County. River Oak Charter School is a free public charter school dedicated to encouraging artistic education and development through a Waldorf-based curriculum. The love of life and learning is inspired in the child through one’s own heart, head and hands, working towards making contributions to the community. River Oak is home to over 240 students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade and 30+ teachers and staff that are deeply involved and dedicated to our small town.
Throughout the day the event will have a variety of performances. Some of these will be Maypole dances, live bands, Capoeira Force das Aguas, and Ballet Folkloric. The event will have booths and vendors with raffles, carnival games, merchandise, and educational activities. There will be a variety of food and drinks available for purchase including BBQ from the Lions Club.
Major underwriters include Visit Mendocino, Mendocino County District Attorney, Hydro Pacific, Mendocino Forest Products, CrossFit Firefly, Frey Vineyards, Red Barn Ranch Weddings and Events. In addition to our main underwriters, over 70+ businesses will be involved as sponsors and will be funding their own unique art piece.
