A large truck carrying bales of hay overturned on State Route 20 east of the intersection of State Route 20 and State Route 53 spilling its contents in the roadway and causing at least one other traffic accident and a major injury.

Reports from the scene indicate the major east-west thoroughfare is being shut down so first responders can land a helicopter on the highway for medivac.

The incident began at approximately 5:50 PM when a big rig loaded with hay possibly rolled over near a dangerous curve, as per the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page.

The location of the incident is after the exit to Raven’s Landing Campground in the open highway between Clear Lake and the Colusa County line

The truck lost its load, and the bales of hay spilled onto the roadway, covering the entire lane for about 200 feet. Multiple people stopped their vehicles and attempted to clear the hay from the road.

According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, the overturned truck has reportedly caused other traffic collisions that resulted in injuries. One occupant was bleeding from the head and had a shoulder injury. Two vehicles were involved in this secondary collision, and emergency services were performing traffic control.
