A wildfire, dubbed the “Springs Fire,” broke out northeast of Ukiah this evening, threatening at least one structure and prompting a full wildland response from fire agencies. As of 7:30 p.m., retardant has been laid around the majority of the fire.
Initial reports indicated that the fire, located in the 3200 block of Vichy Springs Road, had smoke visible between Deerwood and Vichy Springs.
Air Attack crews reported the fire at 2 acres with a slow rate of spread, driven by wind in the grass.
The fire is situated within the right of way of powerlines. PG&E has been requested to respond to the area.
Law enforcement is closing access to the area to mitigate civilians to allow full movement of emergency personnel.
Smoke is visible on AlertCalifornia cameras on Cow Mountain and Cleland Mountain.
UPDATE 7:41 p.m.: The Incident Commander reported the Springs Fire’s forward progress has been stopped.
