The following is a press release issued by the California Highway Patrol:
On July 11, 2024, at approximately 2126 hours, officers from the California Highway Patrol, Clear Lake Area, responded to reports of a fatal collision that occurred on private property involving a 2015 Polaris RZR. A preliminary investigation indicated the Polaris was traveling eastbound, at an unknown speed, within the confines of private property located on Schwartz Lane in Lower Lake (unincorporated Lake County). For reasons pending further investigation, the Polaris overturned onto its left side and came to rest.
As a result of the collision, the 18-year-old male driver, a resident of Michigan, whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Lake County Fire District personnel. The right front passenger was ejected from the Polaris and struck a nearby cattle fence. The right front passenger, and a rear passenger, both juveniles, were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Two other juvenile passengers were transported by helicopter to Sacramento for major injuries.
Lake County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene and assisted the California Highway Patrol with the investigation.
Alcohol and/or drug use is not suspected to be a factor in this collision. The driver and passengers were not wearing safety belts or helmets. The cause of this collision is still under investigation by Officer A. Sanchez.
The article states there were four people riding in the ATV. The driver was pronounced deceased but then it says 2 passengers were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries and 2 were flown out to Sacramento with major injuries. Were there 5 people in the ATV?
Sounds like one driving and 4 riding, total of 5
This is nuts!
