The Little River Museum is set to unveil a new collection of jigsaw puzzles this weekend, priced at $5 each, alongside its antique puzzle display. The museum, known for its engaging exhibits, also features a fully functional antique toys and train exhibit and a hands-on Woodlands Wildlife exhibit, which has garnered significant attention from visitors.
The museum offers free admission and provides guests with complimentary Pomo Indian trail maps and recordings of the spoken Pomo language. The Pomo summer encampment was historically located directly behind the museum, adding a layer of local history to the visit.
Visitors can also explore local genealogy files, history interviews, books, and a variety of other exhibits. One notable historical fact highlighted by the museum is that many brick patios in local yards originated from England as ballast in sailing ships during the late 1800s. These bricks, unloaded in the area, were used to construct blacksmith forges, chimneys, and patios, and some still bear the names of their original manufacturers.
Located at 8185 Highway One, just north of Van Damme Beach, the Little River Museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. All visitors receive a free raffle ticket for a chance to win local prizes.
