On 09-07-2024 at approximately 4:14 A.M., Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies were conducting a foot patrol in the 100 block of Kawi Place in Willits, CA. While patrolling the area, one of the deputies observed a subject he recognized as Andrew Riffle, who the deputy knew to be on formal probation in Mendocino County.

The deputy contacted Riffle and conducted a search of Riffle per his formal probation terms. The deputy located several checks in Riffle’s possession, which belonged to a local business in Fort Bragg, CA. The checks had a total displayed value of over $250,000 dollars. The deputy began an investigation and learned Riffle was also in possession of mail belonging to the business in Fort Bragg, CA.

During the investigation, the deputy developed probable cause to believe the checks and mail were delivered to a mailbox belonging to the local business in Fort Bragg, CA. The deputy also developed probable cause that Riffle was illegally in possession of the stolen mail and checks.

At the conclusion of the investigation, Riffle was placed under arrest for 496(a) PC (Felony Possession of stolen property), 530.5(e) PC (Mail Theft), and 1203.2 PC (Violation of Formal Probation Terms).

Riffle was subsequently transported to the Mendocino County Jail where he is to be held on a no-bail status due to violating the terms of his formal probation.

  1. WELCOME TO CLUB FED ANDY! Tampering with the mail is a Federal crime. You’ve just bought the farm.
Kamala Harris will probably let you go, and then give you $25,000.00 for a house payment.

    • Your comment doesn’t deserve a response so I don’t even know why I’m even bothering, except for the fact that the American public is so badly informed about everything from A-Z . There is a lot about K.Harris that I know I’m not happy with but when people just repeat stupid stuff they’ve heard it bothers me. What I do know is that as a D.A she went above n beyond convicting people and was pretty harsh about recommended sentencing. That much I do know

      • As the D.A. of San Francisco, she severely mishandled the drug lab fiasco resulting in the dismissal of close to 1,500 cases. She wasn’t a good D.A., contrary to what you “know”.

    • “Where is his mother”??
So…it’s all mom’s fault? Always the woman’s fault? Why did you not ask “where is his dad”? Because it’s mom’s job to teach a boy how to be a man?
In reality, it’s nobody’s fault except his own. He makes his own choices.

  4. Expand the use of ankle monitors for those on probation. Allow them free reign about the county, but if if that monitor shows up at 4:30 AM in the back alley of a business district. That could be a violation of probation …subject to a curfew and some sort of geofence. Next violation return to the county farm. Or jail

  5. Wow I can’t believe the randomness of this. Was this a shear act of god or was the officer tipped off. How did he know that man had checks on him that were stolen? That business is lucky he didn’t cash them yet.

  6. He wouldn’t have been able to cash them if he tried. That business probably had no where near that kind of money to pay out anyways. And money from the bank is insured so the only one losing would have been the bank. So in other words he’ll get out. Federal offense or not.
