The coastal town of Mendocino’s unique charm, its New England architecture perched on the edge of the continent vibes, has been a draw for many filmmakers using the setting to tell their stories.
The television series that likely brought the town of Mendocino to the most TV sets across America was the long-running series Murder, She Wrote. Mendocino was dubbed “Cabot Cove” and Lansbury portrayed mystery writer Jessica Fletcher. the show aired from 1984 to 1996, spanning 12 seasons and cementing Lansbury as an icon of the small screen.
The actress passed away in 2022 at the age of 96, leaving behind a legacy of memorable roles, with Murder, She Wrote being one of her most beloved.
To celebrate the show’s lasting impact and Mendocino’s connection to it, the Kelley House Museum will host the Murder, She Wrote Festival from Friday, May 2, to Sunday, May 4, 2025. Festival passes are available for $150, or $125 for Kelley House members, and include a variety of events honoring the series.
The festival will kick off with a Welcome Happy Hour & Trivia Night on Friday at 4 p.m. and conclude midday on Sunday. Highlights include a mystery scavenger hunt, a reception at the famous Blair House, a walking tour of filming locations, and an interactive “Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote” screening hosted by special guest Tim Benzies, self-described as a “super-fan of Murder, She Wrote“. Attendees can also enjoy tea tastings, an author talk, and exclusive festival merchandise.
Tickets are expected to sell out quickly, and proceeds will benefit the Kelley House Museum’s programs and operations, marking the museum’s largest fundraiser of 2025.

My mom was her housekeeper and she used my brother as an “errand boy”, they both have nothing but kind things to say about her. I met her on multiple occasions throughout my childhood and she was always wonderful.
