The Coast Youth Soccer League (CYSL) just concluded another season of Fall Ball for children on the Mendocino Coast. The non-profit youth sports league was founded in the belief that every child who wants to play soccer should be able to participate in team play regardless of a child’s experience, ability, or their family’s financial situation. Each season features biweekly practices and weekly games filled with fun, sportsmanship, and enthusiastic fans. With over 350 players aged 4 to 14, more than 20 referees from local high schools, and over 60 dedicated volunteer coaches. CYSL has fostered a vibrant community of approximately 430 coastal residents committed to youth sports.

As the League shifts gears to begin planning for the 2025 season, they are seeking passionate volunteers to help keep the things running smoothly. The CYSL Board of Directors is particularly in need of new members with the departure of longtime supporters Kylie Felicich and Chris Morris. Kylie has been a part of the league for the past 8 years, serving on the board since 2019. She brought CYSL to a new level of community support by building meaningful partnerships, securing new paths for funding, and steering the league in a positive direction. Chris has made a lasting impact, coaching U6 through U15 teams, serving on the board, and mentoring countless CYSL referees and coaches for the past 13 years.

The community plays a major role in youth sports. This season Coast Youth Soccer League saw support from more than 30 local businesses including the generous League Sponsor, Nor Cal Gasoline. Fields were sponsored by Mendocino Coast Children’s Fund, Mendocino Drone, Mendocino Coast Clinics, Sinclair Dino Mart, and Cravingrill. Each of the 28 teams was sponsored by local businesses and coached by local heroes. In addition to sponsoring teams in multiple divisions and the U12 Field this season, the Mendocino Coast Children’s Fund has provided scholarships for the past four years ensuring that every child in our community can play. The Mendocino Coast Community Foundation funded equipment and training for the 2024 season’s referees. These local Middle School and High School students learn valuable skills and commitment during the three-month season. A grant awarded by the Mendocino Coast Recreation and Park District allowed the league to purchase a new field striper greatly improving the quality of the playing fields and decreasing volunteer time spent maintaining them.

Mark your calendars for the 2025 season, each year registration begins in April and is open through the end of June! For updates from CYSL check the website (www.cyslmendo.com) or follow the Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cyslmendo).
