The incident unfolded near the Marina Market on State Route 20 around 3 a.m. when a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy reported encountering a subject. What began as a routine interaction quickly escalated, according to the scanner recordings.

The deputy told dispatch the individual was armed with a knife and “coming at me,” prompting an urgent request for backup with lights and sirens. Moments later, the deputy announced, “shots fired,” followed by a report that the suspect was down with gunshot wounds to the arm and chest.

The deputy reported the subject had abdominal bleeding and he was “holding pressure” on the subject’s wound. An air ambulance was requested for the injured subject, but dispatch indicated that no air transport was available at the time.
