Three horses killed after motorhome crash on Highway 20 near Clear Lake

A motorhome crashed and tipped onto its side while towing a horse trailer along State Route 20 east of Clear Lake on Sunday evening, sending the trailer down an embankment and reportedly killing three horses.

The crash was reported at 5:09 p.m. near Watertrough Road, according to to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page. The motorhome’s driver and any passengers sustained only minor or no injuries, but scanner traffic indicated all three horses inside the trailer died at the scene.

The eastbound lane of Highway 20 is blocked as first responders work to clear the wreckage. Emergency crews, including animal control, were dispatched to assist with the situation.

    • Sheryl, people hauling animals usually do drive slower. They have expensive animals in that trailer behind them. Don’t point fingers at something until you know facts. People like you speak out only when things like this happen & you don’t know what really lead upto the accident. Don’t- just dont!!! Those people are probably devastated!!! Horses are more than pets!!!
