State Route 20 near Blue Lakes is impacted this evening after a vehicle fire prompted an emergency response. Thankfully, authorities at the scene confirmed there was minimal spread to vegetation.

Scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page indicate the incident began around 8:30 p.m. when a truck caught on fire near the Blue Lakes Lodge reportedly spewing black smoke.

When the Incident Commander arrived at the scene, he confirmed the vehicle was “fully involved” but described the fire as spreading minimally to the vegetation.

  1. If a wildland fire takes over that area…how are residents going to evacuate in a timely manner? That work needs to be done ASAP. All this roadwork all over county is choking evacuation routes. One lanes now forever in Ukiah. Sure..do it. But not all at once. After the Redwood Valley fire, Paradise,
Valley fires …it seems crazy to do everything at once all over this fire prone area.

  2. We were stuck in stop & go traffic for over an hour trying to get through that one lane construction bottleneck recently.
Vehicles idling in the heat with the AC roaring. A few conked out on the side of the road.
What made this one catch fire?
