Mendocino County’s CEO Carmel Angelo sent an email last night stating that Mendocino County would soon be shifting to California’s most restrictive COVID-19 tier known as Purple, according to Second District Supervisor John Haschak.
Mendocino County Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sarah Dukett told us, “[B]ecause of the surge across the state, the State is waiting only 1 week rather than 2 weeks to reassess County data. We were notified last night that we are being moved back to purple today at noon during the governor’s press conference.”
According to the most recent Mendocino County COVID-19 Dashboard, the county’s Daily Positive Cases rate is 11.14 cases. The State of California Blueprint for a Safer Economy defines counties in the Purple Tier as 7 new cases per 100,000 individuals.
The county’s redesignation within the Purple Tier will affect local school districts and plans to reopen to hybrid learning. Last Friday, Ukiah Unified School District Superintendent Debra Kubin said in a statement to the community, “Although we shared our reopening plans with you last week and during the Board meeting last night, the Mendocino County Public Health Officer released a new order regarding schools and guidance for schools in our county. This new guidance will result in Ukiah Unified needing to change our secondary school schedules when we return to in-person instruction.”
According to The State of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy, the following regulations will be put into place as soon as the Purple Tier designation is announced by Governor Newson:
- Hair salons: open indoors with modifications
- Retail: open indoors at 25% capacity
- Malls: open indoors at 25% capacity and food courts closed
- Nail salons: open indoors with modifications
- Electrolysis: open indoors with modifications
- Personal care services (body waxing, etc.): open indoor with modifications
- Tattooing and piercing: open indoors with modifications
- Museums, zoos and aquariums: outdoor only
- Places of worship: outdoor only
- Movie theaters: outdoor only
- Hotels: open with modifications
- Gyms: outdoor only
- Restaurants: outdoor only
- Wineries: outdoor only
- Bars and breweries: closed
- Family entertainment centers: outdoor only, like mini golf, batting cages and go-kart racing
- Cardrooms: outdoor only
- Non-essential offices: remote work only
- Professional sports: no live audiences
- Schools: must stay closed
- Theme parks: must stay closed
