A local man came upon a tragic sight today when he found a subject had hanged himself from the Old Potter Valley Bridge just off Highway 20. Authorities have identified the decedent as a 53-year-old man from Lake County.

Richard Rumsey, the local man who found the deceased person, told us “It was bad. I won’t ever forget that scene.”

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Quincy Cromer confirmed his agency is “investigating a coroner’s case from 1121 AM today at the Old Potter Valley Bridge (on Potter Valley Road near Highway 20).”

Captain Cromer said the decedent has been identified as a 53-year-old man from Clearlake, California.

Investigators are approaching the death as “an apparent suicide and we are still attempting to identify and notify the legal next of kin.” Captain Cromer said, “The method of suspected suicide is not being released.”

The California Department of Public Health indicates that Mendocino has the 8th highest rate of suicide out of the Golden State’s 58 counties. Lake stands as the 2nd highest.

The rural lifestyle prevalent in California’s rural north presents several elements that contribute to the risk of suicide. These risk factors, outlined by the Centers for Disease Control, encompass limited access to healthcare, social isolation, and elevated occurrences of adverse childhood experiences.

Please remember, if you or a loved one are suffering from mental distress there are many resources that can be accessed including:

NO NO NO NO! Please don’t take your own life! Things get bad, they do, and they hurt so bad, they do, but there is a Heavenly Father that created you and loves YOU. And there are people who love you. There is help! Please reach out to God and the suicide hotline….

Please cry out to JESUS CHRIST. Be willing to repent ( ALL have sinned, there’s none righteous NO NOT ONE) and submit your life ( present, past, and future) to the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. When you search for Him with all your heart you WILL find Him and He WILL help you.

    • Don’t waste your time searching for a God that doesn’t exist, instead find love within yourself. It doesn’t require the imagination, or a fantasy novel written by men over a thousand years ago. Learn to enjoy the here and now, instead of hoping you’ll get some magic gifts when you die. That’s where you will find real peace, by learning to love and forgive yourself. It doesn’t require anyone but yourself, therefore nothing can ever take it away.

      • Going to church never hurt anyone who truly sought guidance. I’ve been going off and on since birth basically. And all right here in RV and Ukiah. Whenever I needed guidance I have never failed to find it. Christ might not be for everyone but Christ is here for all who seek.

        • Amen Bradley, Christ IS for everyone, but it’s our own choice to accept or reject Him . And the truth is that some will reject Him and never know His grace and truth. 😕

      • Then why is that fantasy book coming to pass? Read Daniel Ezekiel and Revelations and then maybe you will understand. Just sayin.

      • You’re SO wrong !! Respectfully, God IS real andJesus Christ is my Lord. And furthermore… He is the ONLY peace I have found in this life.

        God bless you 💞✝️☺️

  2. Condolences. 😢💐

People, be extra kind this year. Life isn’t getting any easier. Love more than you ever have. Extend forgiveness to everyone who has hurt you, even if they don’t think they need it. And be kind online. Please….treat everyone with respect. Someone’s life might depend on it.

  3. I’m sorry for this man that passed, but to ask “god” for help! If the god Local is talking about, well I don’t think he’s listening very good. Just asked those poor souls in Palestine and Ukrainian, where’s their god of mercy

  4. I know it’s hard and painful I know that’s a selfish act.Try to image what that did to his older brother. He will probably blame himself

  5. What in the world is wrong with you people? A man lost his life in the saddest way possible and y’all on here trying to proselytize and talking about Hillary Clinton… Tighten up, man…
