A body recovery is underway on the Mendocino Coast this afternoon prompting a multi-agency response.

Authorities are concentrating their efforts on the shoreline south of Fort Bragg, within the vicinity of the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens.

It is unclear at this point how authorities learned of the subject in the water or how they came to be there.

Scanner traffic indicates that Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office deputies were potentially the first agency to receive the report of a body resulting in their request for assets from nearby water resources.

Scanner traffic regarding the incident began this afternoon around 3:30 with a request that Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department’s jet skis be deployed to assist in the recovery and search for the body.

Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief John Pisias confirmed as of 4:00 p.m. the department’s jet skis have launched out of Fort Bragg’s Noyo Harbor to assist in the recovery of the body.
