The following is a press released issued by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On 03-15-2021 at about 6:30 PM a Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 1000 block of South Main Street in Willits, California.
The Deputy contacted the driver, Jerry Degurse, and a female passenger.
A records check was conducted on Degruse and it was discovered he was on formal probation with a search term and had a suspended California Driver’s license. He was also prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
Sheriff’s Dispatch further confirmed Degurse had two felony arrest warrants and four misdemeanor arrest warrants from other counties in California. Degruse was subsequently arrested pursuant to the arrest warrants.
The Deputy searched the vehicle and located an ice chest, which contained a large amount of ammunition in various calibers. This resulted in an added charge of being in possession of ammunition by a prohibited person (30305(A)(1) PC).
Degurse was booked into the Mendocino County Jail where he was to be held in lieu of $72,000.00 bail.
