[UPDATE 1:10 p.m.: Forward Progress Stopped] Firefighters Respond to Vegetation Fire Burning East of Fort Bragg Along Highway 20

Scanner traffic starting at approximately 10:11 a.m. a passerby reported grey smoke could be seen on the north side of Highway 20 east of Fort Brag near mile marker 6.8.

A number of firefighting resources were dispatched to the scene and the Incident Commander confirmed a fire is burning currently 3-4 acres in size, burning in timber, and moving at a slow rate of spread.

The fire is specifically burning near Road 490A, a rural road alongside Highway 20

The Incident Commader has requested a hand crew from Willits attend to the fire and if unable, a mutual aid request will be established to bring in a hand crew from a nearby county.

UPDATE 11:02 a.m.: Additional resources have been requsted to the Bragg Incident from nearby fire districts including Mendocino Fire and Albion Fire. The Incident Commander called for a water tender and a water tender driver.

UPDATE 11:13 a.m.: The Bragg Incident is currently visible on the AlertWildfire Black Oak Camera.

UPDATE 11:29 p.m.: This screen recording of the AlertWildfire Black Oak Camera shows the smoke plume in action.

UPDATE 1:10 p.m.: The Bragg Incident Commander reported the fire’s forward progress has been halted and the fire’s total size measured 1.6 acres. He estimated heavy mop-up efforts will take approximately 4-6 hours.
