Black Bear Cools Off in Water Cistern East of Lake Mendocino

Categories:

The following is a post published on the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Lake Mendocino Facebook page:

Feeling like the recent heat is a tad un-bear-able? Try walking around in a fur coat! These images of a Black Bear cooling off in an old water cistern were recently captured by a wildlife camera on the east side of Lake Mendocino.

This behavior is likely caused by heat stress; the temperature at the time of recording was 105°F, in the shade. Remember, all the animals of the forest are affected by extremes in drought and temperature that occur with climate change.#LakeMendocino#USACE#USACESPN#ClimateChange
