Northbound Hwy 101 Reopens After Car Fire South of Hopland

Categories:

A fire which started from a Nissan Altima pulling into the grass south of Hopland near the Green Bridge over the Russian River closed northbound Hwy 101 about 4:15 p.m. (The car may have been on fire when it pulled over about 3:46 p.m. That detail is unclear at this time.) As of 4:59 p.m., Highway 101 has reopened.

A CHP officer breathalyzed and handcuffed the driver. Reportedly, the glove compartment was full of cannabis.

Northbound traffic is being diverted from 101 onto Old River Road but southbound traffic is allowed through though traffic is moving slowly.

An ambulance was requested to respond to the scene. However, the CHP site isn’t indicating any injuries at this point.
