A fire began burning at the edge of Covelo near Highway 162 a little after 1 p.m.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department sent out a Nixle alert at 1:13 p.m. stating, “Fire activity in the area of mile marker 29 on Highway 162 in Covelo. Fire is on scene please use situational awareness and stay out of the area.”

UPDATE 1:42 p.m.: The Covelo Fire is contained and mop up has started, according to Incident Commander speaking over the scanner.
