At approximately 1:40 a.m. scanner traffic indicated that law enforcement and medical personnel had been dispatched to the intersection of Henderson Road and Crawford Road in Covelo after a male pedestrian had been struck and killed by a vehicle which subsequently fled the scene.
At approximately 2:04 a.m. California Highway Patrol was directed to secure the scene and take photos.
As of 2:36 a.m., no description of the vehicle has been provided and the driver is still at-large.
California Highway Patrol requested Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office respond to the scene to process the fatality.
Considering the hour, we will reach out to our contact at the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office tomorrow morning to get further information.
UPDATE 7:51 a.m.: Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten confirmed there is an “active death investigation at this time in Covelo” wherein “CHP and Sheriff’s detectives are working together to determine the circumstances that led to the adult man’s death.”
He added that “the investigators are early into their joint investigation and nothing more is available for public release at this time.”
