A fire is burning west of Ukiah High School on Low Gap Road as of 3:22 p.m. The Incident Commander is reporting the fires .5-2 acres with the potential of burning 10-15 acres. The vegetation has been described as “light flashy fuels” with a moderate rate of spread.
A full wildland response has been initiated and the fire is reportedly starting to crest the ridge west of the high school.

There is currently a fire in the 1500 block of Low Gap Road in Ukiah. Law enforcement and Fire personal are on scene, use situational awareness and stay out of the area. More to follow as information becomes available
UPDATE 3:48 p.m.: Air attack reports that the fire is about three acres. Low Gap Road is closed west of the high school. Parents, do not pick up your students there.

UPDATE 3:55 p.m.: Firefighters are reporting over the scanner that they are making good progress.
UPDATE 3:58 p.m.: According to a tweet by Cal Fire Mendocino, “Fire is currently holding at approx. 3 acres. located near the community of Ukiah, visible form the Ukiah Highschool – approx 1.5 miles, Mendocino County, CA.”
UPDATE 4:04 p.m.: According to a report over the scanner, firefighters have got a hose lay around the fire BUT spot fires are causing problems by spreading beyond the hose. Aircraft is on scene dropping retardant in an attempt to contain the fire.
UPDATE 4:15 p.m.: Mendo CAL FIRE is saying, “Air and ground resources arrived at scene quickly and stopped forward progress. Hose line is around the primary fire and resources are working to extinguish an additional small spot. Resources will remain at scene until this small fire is fully contained.”
UPDATE 6:21 p.m.: The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department, “Update on fire in the area of the 1500 block of Low Gap Road: the fire has been contained and fire crews will remain on scene for mop up.”
