A fiery solo vehicle crash just north of Hopland on Hwy 101 about 2:30 p.m. sent a few flames spreading into the surrounding vegetation and left the occupant critically injured. However, firefighters extinguished the vehicle and the extension into the wildland before there could be serious wildfire concerns.
Flames completely engulfed the vehicle though before the fire was extinguished and, the Incident Commander requested an air ambulance for the victim.
According to CHP Officer Olegario Marin, the vehicle went off the roadway and thus Hwy 101 remained open as emergency personnel deal with the serious incident.
