Ukiah Police Department Lieutenant Andrew Phillips has confirmed that an argument in the Wells Fargo parking lot became violent this morning resulting in the stabbing death of one while another awaiting booking for murder.

Lieutenant Phillips told us that around 10:04 a.m., UPD officers were dispatched to the parking lot of 717 South State Street regarding reports of an argument between two people with one person holding a knife.

Upon arrival, UPD officers found one subject lying on the ground with apparent stab wounds to their abdomen.

The chaos of the suspect’s vehicle was left on the scene after police arrested him this morning.

The suspect, who Lieutenant Phillips identified as Leslie Adelman, was walking away from the scene while still holding the knife. Phillips said he resisted arrest when officers attempted to detain him.

The victim of the stabbing was transported to Ukiah Valley Medical Center and passed away in the emergency room.

Lieutenant Phillips said both the suspect and the victim are transients in the Ukiah area.

Adelman had yet to be booked in the Mendocino County Jail just hours after the incident.

In this image of this suspect’s vehicle, a single large knife handle is visible as well as several sheaths.

On the scene of this morning’s stabbing, this reporter noticed a Toyota pickup full of items including knives, trinkets, smoking pipes, and random foodstuff. Lieutenant Phillips confirmed the vehicle on the scene belongs to the suspect.

This is the second homicide in Ukiah within the last week. The first of which resulted in the arrest of a 38-year-old man, Drew Price, in the death of 55-year-old Deborah Garner-Flicker, a woman reportedly killed in her apartment on Gobbi Street.

  1. AFTER SOOO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THIS PERSON, LIKE SEEING HIM DAILY AND THE UPD DID NOTHING AND IT HAD TO RESULT THAT TO A DEATH. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ARREST HIM AFTER HAVING A WEAPON.

  2. Oh btw thanks for the pretty picture of the hat. I know for certain it didn’t look like that but you need to inflate with beauty. Shallow … You have no idea … we have dealt with this man for months with no police help and his rantings and whistles at our customers across the street. We now that his hat was never this way. You altered the picture for ratings.

    • That hat was literally lying on the ground in front of the vehicle when I was at the scene this morning.

Please, clarify your claim it was altered.

It’s unclear to me the connection between the picture of the hat and any distress this man would’ve caused.

    • In response to Kat’s comment about the hat, that seems so ridiculously irrelevant to this event! Probably one of the dumbest remarks I’ve seen on the internet in a long time. Leave the journalist alone and stop blaming him for something so insignificant and ridiculous.

  3. We have the business acrossed the street we watch and two of us watched all this. We’ve called the police on him several times. To bad he had to kill someone to get taken care of.

  4. I had so many run-ins with this guy at work. He was constantly an issue and throwing threats around while armed with his large knife. The problem is that the police department has it’s hands tied by the city leaders who like to turn their heads away from the issue and blame businesses for it occurring. It’s time this community demanded it’s leaders step up and start to deal with this problem of mental health and transients. It’s time to end “Street Projects” and make significant changes to make our streets safer for the community.

    • I second this motion. Leaders, stop being absent, do something concrete about these issues. They are in our faces each day. The danger gets worse each day. Start using the Marbut report we all paid for, stop caving to the whiney self serving non profits. Clean this town up! Your tax paying citizens deserve better from you. Just do it!!
