Four-Alarm Fire at North Bay Port Makes National News Burning Commercial Pier

Categories:

A catastrophic fire in the North Bay port city of Benicia has drawn national attention today as the flames consumed a wooden commercial pier sending dark plumes of smoke over the area.

CNN, The New York Post, and stations through California’s major media markets have been reporting on the destruction throughout the day.

The fire began around noon and by 3:00 p.m. the Benecia FIre Department tweeted the incident had risen to the level of a catastrophic, four-alarm fire.

Fire departments from around the North Bay converged to get the raging fire under control as plumes of black smoke impeded a nearby bridge.

An update from officials this evening stated they will be watching shifts in the wind throughout the evening which could cause a potential shelter-in-place order to be issued.
