Scanner traffic beginning around 10:00 p.m. indicated a woman at the Jackson Demonstration State Forest’s Horse Camp was concerned after two of her friends rode off on horseback this afternoon had not yet returned to camp.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies navigated nightfall, weak cellphone signals, and unclear locations and were finally able to reach the woman at the campsite.

At this point, deputies are combing the area in the darkness and attempting to locate the missing horseback riders.

UPDATE 7/17/2022 8:26 a.m.: Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Van Patten provided good news this morning. After a four-hour hasty search last night, two deputies were able to locate the horseback riders in a “safe and healthy condition.”
