[UPDATE] Walker Fire Near Willits Bursts Back Into Flames

About 3:50 p.m., firefighters learned that the Walker Fire which tore through 109 acres south of Willits on September 1 has flared back up in the hot, dry weather (it is currently 107 degrees in the area).

The fire’s path is taking it towards the water treatment plant.

Copter 910 is overhead and air tankers have been requested. Tanker 90 and 91 as well as the air attack plane are lining up to leave the Ukiah airport as of 4:26 p.m.

The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department is only calling for “situational awareness” at this time.

UPDATE 4:38 p.m.: Cal Fire MEU reports, “Incident Update: A flare up occurred today near Morris Dam. Air and ground resources have been dispatched and are at scene.”

UPDATE 4:57 p.m.: Cal Fire MEU tweeted the following photo of the fire:

UPDATE 9:12 p.m.: Cal Fire tweeted, “A flare-up occurred today. Air and ground resources were dispatched and are at scene. Ground resources will remain at scene throughout the night. Fire activity has moderated. Very receptive fuels.
