The following is a press release issued by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. This has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
Two Ukiah residents who were wanted for several felonies are in custody after a pursuit that ended in a fiery crash in Santa Rosa on March 14.
On March 5, a man and a woman claiming to be Santa Rosa Police officers obtained a victim’s cell phone and credit card information. They told the victim his accounts had been compromised. Two suspects involved in this crime were later identified as Jeanette Perez, 32, Ukiah, and Jorge Gonzalez Alvarez, 39, Ukiah.
On March 8, after being contacted on the victim’s cell phone by his tax preparer, the suspects posed as the victim and his niece to obtain the victim’s tax return and a $100 check. The victim discovered this crime on March 11 when he tried to pick up his taxes. Perez and Gonzalez Alvarez also used the victim’s cards at a hotel, gas station, and restaurant.
On March 14 at approximately 6:30 p.m., a deputy tried to pull over Perez and Gonzalez Alvarez in the 3700 block of Santa Rosa Avenue, Santa Rosa. Perez did not pull over and instead started a pursuit that ended with her crashing the car into a gas station at the corner of Corby and Hearn Avenues in Santa Rosa. The car and the gas pump caught fire and deputies evacuated nearby residences. Both suspects ran away but were quickly found and arrested with the assistance of Santa Rosa Police officers and Henry 1. Santa Rosa Fire Department responded and put out the fire.
Perez was booked on charges of felony evading peace officers, felony burglary, felony conspiracy, felony theft by false pretenses, misdemeanor impersonation of a peace officer, misdemeanor possession of drugs, violation of post release community supervision, and a warrant. She is currently in custody and being held without bail. Gonzalez Alvarez was booked on charges of felony conspiracy and felony burglary. He was released the next day on pre-arraignment release with terms and conditions granted by a judge.
Property Crimes Detectives found and returned the victim’s cell phone, cards, and tax return. Detectives continue to investigate this case.
