Two teenagers from Gualala were killed Monday morning, March 24, when their vehicle veered off Ten Mile Cut Off Road and crashed into a tree, according to a California Highway Patrol press release from the Ukiah office.

The crash occurred around 8:50 a.m. just north of Schooner Gulch Road, CHP said. Orlando Sanchez, 19, was driving a 2016 Toyota northbound when the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but both passengers, a 16-year-old and a 10-year-old, were pronounced dead at the scene, CHP stated. Their identities are being withheld due to their age.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, according to CHP. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.
