The following press release was issued by the Clearlake Police Department. The information has not been proven in a court of law and any individuals described should be presumed innocent until proven guilty:
On December 25, 2020, 43 year old Clearlake resident Luis Avina was arrested on probable cause for felony resisting and commercial burglary after he was located burglarizing Tractor Supply in Clearlake.
At approximately 7:09 am, officers from the Clearlake Police Department responded to an alarm call at Tractor Supply with a report of a subject inside by an employee.
Officer Shores and Officer Barreto arrived on scene and took positions around the building. Officer Shores located Avina at the rear of the store, near the loading docks with numerous items from inside of the store.
Officer Shores contacted Avina who immediately became aggressive with her, claiming he owned the store.
Officer Shores attempted to detain Avina in handcuffs and he fought with Officer Shores. Sergeant Peterson and Officer Barreto arrived at her location and Avina was taken into custody.
An in-field line up was conducted with the employee who identified Avina as the person she observed inside the closed business. Avina was later booked into the Lake County Jail and the stolen property was returned to Tractor Supply.
