As of 9:45 p.m., scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicate that a van has descended a 300 foot embankment along Highway 101 south of Hopland leaving one person with minor injuries and another with “moderate-to-major injuries.”
Initial reports indicated the vehicle was not visible from the roadway and all that was reported visible was the tail lights.
An air ambulance was requested to the scene but due to visibility issues could not be dispatched to the area.
Incident Command requested that if possible, and air ambulance land in Cloverdale and a ground ambulance could transport the patients to the landing zone.
UPDATE 10:20 p.m.: The CHP Traffic Incident Information Page indicates the Cloverdale tow truck is unable to reach the vehicle being 300 feet from the roadway.
UPDATE 10:21 p.m.: Incident Command and the responding air ambulance have determined there is enough visibility to land closer to the crash site. The landing zone will reportedly be a wide turn out near Highway 101 mile marker 4.
11:13 p.m.: The CHP Traffic Incident Information page indicates that the female party was flown to Vacaville possible suffering from a “fire injury.” The page also states the van will be down the embankment overnight until it is retrived tomorrow morning.
