[UPDATE 5:19 p.m.: Water Shut Off] Vehicle Hits Fire Hydrant in Willits Sending Water Skyward

Information is fluid at this point, but as of 5:02 p.m., Willits Police Department and Willits Utility personnel are on the scene of an incident in which a fire hydrant was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene. Water is gushing upward from the broken hydrant.

A spokesperson from the Willits Police Department told us the incident occurred on the corner of Shell Lane and Baechtel Road. One-way traffic control is in place as personnel work to shut off the water.

UPDATE 5:19 p.m.: Scanner traffic indicates the water has been shut off by utility crews at the scene.
