State Route 175, the windy two-way road between Hopland and Lake County, is reduced to one-way traffic this afternoon after a box truck collided with a Tesla.
The collision reportedly resulted in major damage and blocked both lanes. Hopland Fire Chief Mitch Franklin told us travel is diminished to one-way traffic for a while as a heavy-duty tow truck works to clear the scene. Thankfully, he reported there are no injuries.
Scanner traffic and the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information page indicate that the collision occurred around 11:59 a.m.
The Caltrans Quickmap indicates traffic is moving very slowly near the scene of the crash.
Please remember that this story is unfolding. Information is being reported as we gather it. However, some of the information coming from witnesses and initial official reports could be wrong. We will do our best to get the facts but, in the case that something is inaccurate, we will update with correct information as soon as we can.
A freight truck has no business driving up a steep, narrow, ridiculous curved highway like the Hopland-Lakeport grade.
Shame.
Why doesn’t the county and the state fix and straighten out this road?
Shame on them also.
Widen and straighten it out. Make it easier for people to get into and out of Lake county rather than taking the fuel wasteful diversion through Ukiah (above Ukiah actually, the entrance to the 20 is).
175 makes no sense.
One could say the same for the 20 that goes from Nice to the Clearlake Oaks. The freight trucks slow to a snails pace.
THIS IS A MAJOR LINKING CORRADOR BETWEEN HWY 20 AND HWY 101 FOR SUPPLY AND DELIVERY. Basically the same road from the 1950’s.
70 years later no change.
Why not?
I are truck driver
I’m confused. Your headline says a Tesla and the truck collided. The caption beneath the photo says it was a Prius and a truck. Somebody got their signals crossed.
Richard, in the previous comment is also wrong, in that, 175 is the mountainous corridor between hwy. 29 and 101, not hwy. 20!
I said the entrance to the 20 is ABOVE UKIAH, has nothing to do with the 175 other that it is a fuel wasteful diversion. Wherever you use google maps the shortest route is through 175 to get out of this county to the 101.
