Sonoma County Deputies Injured, Suspect Dead in Late-Night Shootout

In the early hours of March 4, 2024, at approximately 12:10 am, Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies were engaged in an officer-involved shooting in unincorporated west Santa Rosa.

The incident unfolded after responding to reports of an individual brandishing a rifle, according to a press release from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, deputies located the suspect, who led deputies in a pursuit. The suspect, at various points during the chase, halted and opened fire on the pursuing deputies. In response, deputies returned fire. The pursuit concluded when the suspect crashed the vehicle they were driving.

During the incident, four deputies sustained injuries. One deputy suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, while two others sustained hand injuries. Additionally, one deputy incurred a head injury and is currently in critical but stable condition.

The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene, as confirmed by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office press release.

In response to the incident, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has implemented the critical incident protocol. The Santa Rosa Police Department will be assuming control of the investigation.

Authorities assure the public that more details will be made available as soon as possible. Body-worn camera footage will also be released as the investigation moves forward.

  1. Well, there goes another few million dollars! I’m sure the family will sue, and the county will settle. I can hear the attorneys now, “my client’s son was just showing his new hunting rifle to his gun collector buddies and it accidently went off a few times, hitting those under supervised Deputies that should have been trained to duck, and shouldn’t be out that late at night accosting the citizens in the first place.”

    • True words. It’s sad how they’re always the bad guys. I know there are some bad apples but not all of them At the end of the day their lives are truly in the line everyday.
