The following is a statement provided California Highway Patrol Officer Public Information Officer Joel Skeen:
On January 13, 2021, at approximately 1636 hours, a two vehicle traffic collision that resulted in a fatality occurred on SR-20 near Post Mile 21.10 (east of the town of Lucerne), in the CHP Clear Lake Area. A Ford Focus sedan traveling westbound crossed over the double yellow lines and collided head-on with a Ford Escape SUV. The solo elderly male driver of the Ford Focus was transported to Saint Helena Hospital, in the city of Clear Lake, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The driver and passenger of the Ford Escape SUV sustained moderate injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Alcohol and/or drugs are an unknown factor on the deceased party.
