At approximately 4:45 p.m., dispatchers sent firefighters to a barn fire on Poonkinney Road off Hwy 162 in the Covelo area.
Firefighters arrived on scene a little after 5 p.m. to find a fully involved barn with multiple vehicles on scene. Witnesses on the scene reported that there one person was deceased in the barn. According to the Incident Commander speaking to dispatch over the scanner at about 5:10 p.m., the fire is knocked down and there is minimum spread to the surrounding vegetation. He said there would be a two hour mop up time.
