On May 14, 2022 at approximately 11:10 pm, officers with the SRPD Special Enforcement Team (SET) were conducting proactive patrols in the area of North Dutton Avenue and El Cerrito Drive when they saw a parked vehicle with three occupants acting suspiciously. When the officers approached the vehicle, they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. They contacted the occupants of the vehicle, three juvenile males, and learned the boys had recently been smoking marijuana in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle uncovered two 9mm magazines loaded with several rounds of ammunition in the passenger area of the vehicle. In the trunk, the officers located an assault rifle “ghost gun” with a 3D printed lower receiver. The 16-year-old male determined to be in possession of the firearm was arrested and booked into juvenile hall for the following charges:
30605(a) PC – Felony possession of an assault weapon
33215 PC – Felony possession of a short-barreled rifle
29650 PC – Misdemeanor possession of ammunition by a minor
