Scanner traffic beginning around 2:50 p.m. indicated multiple parties were reporting smoke in the area of Redwood Valley’s Road N and West Road.
Firefighters were dispatched and upon arrival, the Incident Commander reported the fire between a 1/4 acre to a 1/2 acre in size burning at a slow rate of spread in the grass underneath oaks near the train tracks.
The Incident Commander warned that if the fire spots across the creek, structures to the west of the fire could be threatened.
Both West Road and Road N have been closed around the fire to allow access for firefighters.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office published the following situational awareness alert about the situation:
UPDATE 3:19 p.m.: Road closures in the area of the fire have expanded including: Road N x West Road, Laughlin Way x West Road, School Road x West Road
UPDATE 3:39 p.m.: The CHP site reports that the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Department has learned from firefighters that the fire is now under control and the roads should be reopened.
