Law enforcement is converging on a rural property west of Redwood Valley this afternoon after a confrontation between neighbors resulted in shots fired.

A reporting party contacted police dispatch around 3:10 p.m. alleging a man had driven a dirt bike onto a property on the 7100 block of Black Bart Trail, east of Redwood Valley, and fired two shots.

It was unclear what preceded the alleged actions, but scanner traffic indicated the reported party was speaking with the victim and speculated the incident could have begun with a domestic situation of some kind.

Reports from the scene indicate the man suspected of firing the weapon is wearing a black tank top, and a black hat, and has a firearm in his waistband. Dispatch also received intel he has access to a high-powered rifle.

As of approximately 4:00 p.m., deputies from the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office have arrived at the location and deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle to gain a visual perspective of the situation.

The pilot reports he has gotten a visual of the suspect’s dirt bike and the house associated with the suspect.

UPDATE 6:16 p.m.: Around 5:50 p.m., law enforcement at the scene of the Redwood Valley incident told dispatch the Code 33 had been lifted, meaning a standing order to clear a specific radio channel due to an on-going emergency, had been lifted. It is unclear if the suspect was taken into custody at this point.
