Fort Bragg Gun Death Is a Homicide, Says MCSO

Daniel Martin Shealor [Picture sent to us by Crystal Leigh Laviletta]

Five days ago, an early morning shooting along Highway 20 resulted in the death of 52-year-old Fort Bragg man Daniel Martin Shealor.

Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Captain Greg Captain Van Patten confirmed that MCSO detectives are considering the death a homicide “because of a gunshot wound.”

On Friday, August 12, 2022,  the shooting reportedly occurred around 6:05 a.m. along Highway 20 near Fort Bragg. Shealor was “self-transported” to the hospital, unclear if that means he drove himself or was driven by another party.  He would succumb to his injuries at the hospital.

Captain Van Patten told us due to the ongoing investigation, he is unable to publicly release a significant amount of information at this time.

UPDATE: Crystal Leigh Laviletta told us Daniel Shelor was her best friend. She is working with a Mendocino Coast funeral home to cremate him and they are currently short $750.00. Please, consider donating to the efforts to cremate Daniel using Cashapp and donating to $crystallaviletta.

    • Hi Donnie..I can’t tell you how sorry I am to hear this. Heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you all. Too many tragic deaths lately…..

      • Can someone tell me how to go about donating to Dan buds funeral or cremation. I’m not real good on how to do things on the internet yet! I’d appreciate it! Thank u! He will be missed! He didn’t deserve to die like he did! No one does! Not to mention where’s his sister? She’s been gone for a long time! Are the cops even trying to find her or find out if someone did something to her? Thanks again!

  2. Not surprised! A self proclaimed copinformant dope addict lives there! Driving a silver banged up Ford mustang! Said he wants to get paid by cops for setting people up!!

    • Everlee, you sound angry and bitter. Why? Did he have the ‘”411″ on you? No matter what he has done, the man is dead. Have some empathy!

  5. This is tragic! He was such a wonderful person! He helped me find my puppy when some one stole him out of my sisters house in fort Bragg. He will be so greatly missed one of the coolest friends my sister ever introduced me too. Rest In Peace Dan. Wish I could make the memorial. My dad and nephew both passed in 2012 haven’t made it back since. ❤️❤️❤️

  6. Oh my god do we really need detectives for this actually I think we need real officers because I know and a lot of people around here know exactly who did it just as the cops do perhaps you should look within your facility they are harboring or not harboring they are facilitating this gentleman to continue killing and continue terrorizing fort Bragg and Mendocino county start with maybe his missing sister or the other girl who is also missing from highway 20 at the same time or hell let’s just go back a little bit we so need a new law enforcement
